SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) — Gold futures retreated modestly Wednesday but that didn’t stop other precious metals from hitting a string of multi-month record highs. Gold for December delivery retreated $3, or 0.2%, to $1,268.70 an ounce on the Comex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange. Silver, however, posted a fresh 30-month high, with the December contract adding 14 cents to close at $20.57 an ounce, matching a March 14, 2008 settlement. Palladium for December delivery hit a new four-month high, settling $5.80 higher at $559.60 an ounce.
